The Sandhurst & District Corps of Drums is a newly formed group and is based in Sandhurst Berkshire. We cater for the 10-18 years of age and welcome both boys and girls. We hold weekly practice sessions on a Monday evening at the 2nd Sandhurst Scout hall, which is located on the Yorktown Road in College Town . You do not need to have any musical knowledge to join us. We teach the basics of what is required and supply all necessary instruments or equipment to practice on. We have recently taken delivery of our new uniforms which are based on the Royal Marines band uniform and hopefully you will agree from the photos, that our band members look very smart.
We currently have 35 members plus adult instructors and can field a full band of 40 which we feel is very good for such a new band. Since starting in 2005 we have held a Side Drum Diploma course and 12 of members passed all the basic drumming rudiments along with instrument care and maintenance. In recognition of their achievement, they now wear a scarlet and gold drum badge on their tunics and also hold a certification of achievement. We have also held a Bugle School in September 2006 plus a course on playing the Bell Lyre and a second drum training school in early 2007 As well as the Website we produce a monthly news letter which goes to all members and supporters of the Corps of Drums. This we have found is a great tool to keep everyone informed of what we are doing and also the progress we are making. We charge a weekly subscription of £2.50 which is paid on a quarterly basis. In addition to this there is a £10 deposit on some of the uniform. On completion of a new membership application form, we acknowledge membership by way of a Welcome letter and a membership card. Those who have the right commitment and attitude towards the band may be prompted through the ranks
